Honeymoon planning on a budget is not as difficult as it seems. However, with oil prices so high, the price of plane tickets has skyrocketed too. Combine that with the state of the economy, and it may be more important to you than ever to save money anywhere you can. If you are honeymooning in Mexico, the Caribbean, or just on the other side of the country you are probably looking for cheap air travel rates.

Cheap air travel rates do exist. But, under these economic circumstances, finding them will take more research than it formerly did. There are a number of internet research strategies that you can use to locate these discounted flights. It is going to be important that you take good notes because you are going to have a lot of information from multiple websites before you are through. And, trying to go back from memory is simply an exercise in frustration.

First stop will be any of a number of popular online travel websites. These will allow you to compare not only prices of flights between airlines, but also the difference in prices between a single airline’s flights. It is shocking to discover that the same flight can cost substantially more from one day to another. Another area that the flight prices fluctuate wildly is in the time of day the flight originates. One thing you need to keep in mind though-if you are trying to save money through flying at off peak times, try to book a non-stop flight. Otherwise, your connecting flights may have no discounts at all because they now fall into peak flying hours.

You don’t want to look at just one of these sites either. You will want to visit a number of them. The prices are as likely to vary from site to site as they do from airline to airline at different times. Each of these sites have their own fees which are rolled into the price you will be quoted. But, the fees vary from site to site: some charge more-some charge less. A websearch will unearth several of these sites for you to use in your research. Got all your notes? Good lets move on.

Your second stop will be to research the major airlines individually and independently. This can be time consuming, but still worth it if you are able to find a great deal. First, examine airlines that provide flights from your starting point to your destination. Then, compare prices. Remember that being flexible, in your destination and travel dates and times can result keeping more of your money in your wallet. One caveat about flexibility remains however-if you need to be at your destination at a specific time for example to board for a cruise– leave yourself a half a day window leeway. Recently, the airlines have developed an annoying habit of changing up your connecting flights and your layovers which can make you late for your appointment.

Okay, it’s time to review your notes and make your decision. It goes without saying, if while you are researching these airline flights, you come across a cheap airline travel fare that is much lower than the prices you have seen so far, you would be wise to buy the tickets on the spot. Either the flight will sell out or the price will rise if you wait. Sadly, I have on several occasions seen the price jump a few hundred dollars in the time it takes me to enter my credit card information.

Even in these troubled economic times, you can still find cheap air travel rates for your honeymoon, if you are patient and diligent in putting in the time and effort to compare all the variables.
